To be, or not to be: that is the question.

這句出於《哈姆雷特》(Hamlet) 的名句，通俗的翻譯是「生存，還是毁滅；真是大哉問。」。旨在強調「凡是人皆有問題」，不是嗎?

眾所週知，「問題」的英文叫做 problem，同義字包括：bother, conundrum, difficulty, dilemma, dispute, doubt, enigma, issue, nuisance, poser, predicament, puzzle, quandary, question, riddle, rub, trouble, vexation等等。最近，愈來愈多專家認為 problem 不太具有積極意義，過份強調事情的負面形象；因而着手尋找 problem 的替代用字，最後選定 issue 這個字。所以，如今凡是棘手難以處理但又不得不解決的「問題」，習慣上都用 “issue” 來表示或代替 “problem”。例如“the issues surrounding same-sex marriage” (同性婚姻的問題) 。
