蕭士塔高維奇的F大調第三號弦樂四重奏,作品73,是在他的第九號交響曲被蘇聯當局譴責之後的1946年所譜寫出來的,同與第九號交響曲一年交由貝多芬四重奏團體在莫斯科首演。這首曲子在某些方面有著表象上的類似,揭示出偉大作曲家在作曲技巧的新面向,同時也讓作曲家本人在此一創作素材又比以往挖掘得更深入。
Dmitri Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 3 in F major, Op. 73, was composed in 1946 after his Symphony No. 9 was censured by Soviet authorities. It was premiered in Moscow by the Beethoven Quartet, to whom it is dedicated. The Quartet No 3, which is in some respects superficially akin to the 9th Symphony, revealed new facets of this great composer's compositional mastery, and plumbed considerable depths for Shostakovich than before in this medium.

This energetic 3rd movement is written in G sharp minor with aggressive emotion, continuing conflicts, and unrestrained violence. A quasi-Mahlerian mixture of Scherzo and March, with 3/4 and 2/4, is found alternating almost at every measure, looking forward to the shocking second movement in the 10th Symphony.
